Our Murrayville United Methodist Church’s rich history dates back to 1820.

The MUMC has actually had many names over its lifetime. It began as Bethel Methodist Church in 1820, became the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1912, changed to the Murrayville Methodist Church in 1939, and finally settled as Murrayville United Methodist Church in 1968.

Our first church services were part of a four point circuit, where a single Circuit Rider or minister would preach in Manchester, Union, Zion and Murrayville. In the early 19th century, ordained ministers were scarce, so circuits became crucial for weekly church services to take place.

Over the years, our church has been very visible, not only in our community, but around the world. For example, members of our congregation have participated in short term mission work trips to at least fourteen foreign countries, as well as many around the United States and in local areas. The Koinonia Retreat Center, Murrayville-Woodson EAS, our Community Building and the Murrayville-Woodson Food Pantry are more of the ways we are serving Christ in our immediate community.

From 1853 to 2023, Murrayville United Methodist Church has had 63 Male Pastors and 1 Female Pastor.

In 2020, we celebrated 200 years of being in ministry. We look forward to many more years of God’s mercy and grace.
